Raw Results – 9/2/19
Baltimore, Maryland
Royal Farms Arena
Commentary Team: Michael Cole, Renee Young & Corey Graves

Braun Strowman coming out for the Universal title contract signing for Clash of Champions. Seth Rollins follows him and the crowd seems to enjoy him next week.

They sit down with Michael Cole there to ask questions. He starts with talking about the fact that they have to defend the Raw tag team titles against Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler, and how they’ll get along with that. Rollins says he’ll just take care of business like always. Strowman says it will be awkward for Seth when his own tag team partner beats him for his championship.

Rollins big response is to say he won the title by “slaying The Beast, which is something you couldn’t do. And to keep this title at Clash of Champions, I’m going to slay a monster.”

Boy, you can just hear the scripting.

As they start signing, AJ Styles’ music hits. He’s out with The O.C.

Cole tells him they’re trying to conduct official business. Styles cuts in to talk about history being made at Clash of Champions and, surprisingly, a chant breaks out for him.

He does the exposition thing before complaining about Strowman getting a title shot. He believes the U.S. champion should get the shot, not the champ’s tag team partner who just likes to stare at the belt. He makes fun of the fact that that was the build here.

You know, Strowman just staring at the title and a match happening.

He also complains about Bobby — whoops, make that Robert — Roode and Dolph Ziggler getting a tag title shot. “They’re not even a real team!”

He makes a threat, that if The O.C. don’t get what they want, no one else is going to get what they want. Cole again tries to stop him and he screams “shut up, Cole, I’ll slap your teeth down your throat.” That got a big pop.

Styles proceeds to get in the ring and tear up the contract. Then a big brawl breaks out.

Strowman and Rollins clear the ring quickly

SETH ROLLINS & BRAUN STROWMAN VS THE OC W/AJ STYLES:

Seth ties Anderson to the Tree of Woe, Hesitation Dropkick for a 2 count, Braun runs through Anderson, Gallows blcosk a Powerslam, Seth with a Springboard Knee, Avada Kedavra, he looks for the kill, Anderson with a rollup for a 2 count, Seth with a rollup of his own for the win

WINNERS: SETH ROLLINS & BRAUN STROWMAN

Immediately after, Styles attacked Rollins. Seth cleared the ring, and when Strowman went to help on the outside, he inadvertently ran into Rollins. It was clearly an accident, but you know how these things go.

Before it could go anywhere, The Glorious Showoffs showed up to attack and The O.C. recovered to assist in the mauling. With Rollins down, the five of them went after Braun. When Seth recovered, he rushed the ring and took a beatdown for his troubles. Strowman got back up and he too was overwhelmed, all 5 men helped deliver a Magic Killer then they picked Braun up for AJ to deck with a Phenomenal Forearm

Charly Caruso backstage to interview Cedric Alexander.

She asks how he’s preparing for Baron Corbin this week. He says he saw Corbin sitting on the throne last week pretending to be king already but while he’s been doing that, Cedric has… and then he got blasted by The O.C., who ran in full of fire and laid him out.

“That’s too sweet, boys,” Styles remarked as they stood over him

THE GLORIOUS SHOWOFFS VS HAWKINS & RYDER:

Ziggler tears at Hawkins eyes, Roode blocks the Rough Ryder, Long Island Express, but Ziggler makes the save, Superkick then Roode finishes Hawkins with The Glorious DDT for the win

WINNERS: THE GLORIOUS SHOWOFFS

LACEY EVANS VS NATALYA:

Nattie doesn’t even let Lacey get her entrance done before she runs her down, Slingshot Atomic Drop then a Basement Dropkick for a 2 count, Lacey with a Mat Slam on the floor, back in the ring for a 2 count, Cobra Clutch Smother Hold, but Nattie fights out, Handstand Seated Senton, Double Jump Turn Around Moonsault, but no water in the pool, Nattie with a pair of Lariats then Nattie by Nature for a near fall, Snap Suplex then calls Lacey a nasty bitch, Lacey throws the handkerchief in Nattie’s face then blasts her with The Woman’s Right for the win

WINNER: LACEY EVANS

Becky Lynch is walking backstage, back from her engagement vacation.

After a commercial, she makes her way to the ring. They promote Lynch appearing on Steve Austin’s show after Raw tonight.

She says it’s good to be back in Baltimore and she wants to know where Sasha Banks is. She heard the excuses Banks made last week for why she left after WrestleMania and Becky thinks it’s a “load of crap.”

“What happened to you, Sasha? You of all people have no reason to be whining.” She goes on to talk about Banks being the main focus of NXT, and headlining WWE pay-per-views while Lynch was relegated to being an afterthought. She brings up Charlotte and Sasha being paraded out front and center after being called up while she took a backseat. Well, she already taught a lesson to the Flair family, and now she’ll do the same to Banks, who she calls a “delusional little weirdo.”

She brings up how Bayley has been doing just fine without Sasha, and that must hurt. It also must hurt that Becky is the face of the company now, especially because with all her talent “you should be me.” But she’s not.

Finally, Sasha’s music hits and she’s on the stage with a microphone.

“Becky, I was supposed to be you? Hahaha. I was supposed to be you? You’re right. I was supposed to be you. I was supposed to main event WrestleMania.”

She says the only reason Becky got all the success she’s had of late is because Nia Jax broke her face. She says she can make things personal, if that’s what Becky wants.

Lynch says she wants to fight right here and now.

Banks resists because she’s not going to do anything for free in front of Baltimore. She does things when she wants, and for a great deal of money. So they’ll wrestle for the Raw women’s championship at Clash of Champions. Lynch agrees to the match.

Sasha closes by saying, “After Clash of Champions, The Man will be The Boss’s bitch.”

Baron Corbin promo shown from earlier today. He says he’s going to exile everyone and the only thing he wants to hear from anyone is “all hail King Corbin.” (more like ‘go to hell King Corbin’)

BARON CORBIN VS CEDRIC ALEXANDER:

Corbin with the Dream Crusher for a 2 count, Cedric with The Neuralizer, Corbin rolls to the floor, Cedric with a Tope Suicida, Springboard Lariat for a 2 count, Cedric goes for another Neuralizer, but Corbin counters into a Spinebuster for a near fall, Cedirc looks for a Slingshot, but Corbin counters into Deep Six for a near fall, Corbin goes for a Dream Crusher, but Cedric sends him into the post, Cedric posts him 2 more times and yet again, barrage of kicks, Tope con Hilo, Missile Dropkick for a near fall, Lumbar Check blocked, End of Days countered into a rollup for a near fall, Michinoku Driver II for a near fall, he goes for a Springboard, Corbin takes his legs out & hits End of Days for the win (Double Fuck)

WINNER: BARON CORBIN

Charly Caruso, who is talking to Bayley.

She immediately asks about Sasha Banks. Bayley chooses not to make a comment about what Banks has been doing.

Caruso pushes and says she must have talked to Sasha. Bayley confirms they have indeed talked but she won’t go into it because it’s personal. “We all know what happened at WrestleMania. She took her ball and went home, and that was her choice. But not mine.”

She’s the SmackDown women’s champion, and she wants Charly to ask about the match she has tonight.

Caruso does so, wondering if Bayley feels overshadowed by Becky Lynch. Bayley says she doesn’t feel like she’s been overshadowed and the SmackDown title means just as much as the Raw title. She does anything to win, and this week it’s Alexa Bliss’ turn. “By the end of the night we’ll see who is standing in whose shadow.”

Thomas says it’s an opportunity and they drove all the way from Pittsburgh. They’re going to make the Raiders look like a couple of “Balti-morons.”

TYLER HASTINGS & BRIAN THOMAS VS THE VIKING RAIDERS:

German Suplex/Springboard Lariat on Hastings, Rowe runs over Thomas, Hanson with a Running Crossbody, Rowe with a Doctor Bomb on Hastings into Thomas then they finish him Hastings with Thor’s Hammer for the win

WINNERS: THE VIKING RAIDERS

Sasha Banks is walking backstage when she’s stopped for an interview. She’s asked if she’s rooting for her best friend, Bayley, to win tonight, considering she’s teaming with Becky Lynch.

“I see what you’re trying to do. Get the hell out of my face!”

SAMOA JOE VS RICOCHET:

Joe with a Kneebar, but Ricochet goes to the rope, Joe goes after the knee, Ricochet low-bridges Joe, Moonsault off the barricade, back in the ring, Joe with a Stungun then the Kneepcapper, Torture Half Crab, Ricochet fights out, Headscissors takedown for a 2 count, ST-Joe, Exploder Suplex in the barricade, back in the ring for a 2 count, Ricochet with a Springboard Lariat then a Running Shooting Star Press for a near fall, Joe avoids the Pheonix Splash, Ricochet lands on his feet, but Joe catches him with a Snap Powerslam for a near fall, Ricochet with a Victory Roll for a near fall, Ricochet with a No-Hands Space Flying Tiger Drop, back in the ring, up top, but Joe crotches him, Joe with an Avalanche Coquina Clutch, Ricochet fights out and they both fall off the top with both getting an arm on the other as they fall, Cone makes the 3 count and both men’s shoulders were down

WINNER: ?

Cone got out of the ring, grabbed a headset, told some unknown person that he would take their words under advisement, and then he bailed to the back. Both wrestlers tried to ask the ref who won and he simply said “we’ll make a ruling soon.”

So we don’t know who actually won the match

Joe & Ricochet continued to fight with Ricochet hitting The Recoil

Backstage we go, and Braun Strowman asks Seth Rollins if he saw news of Stone Cold moderating for them next week. Rollins said it was a good thing, probably the best thing that happened for them tonight. Strowman disagreed.

He heard Austin gushing over Rollins on the Skype call recently and he doesn’t like how this looks. Rollins laughs off the idea that he and Austin are plotting. Rollins has stabbed in the back before but he’s also been stabbed in the back. If Austin wants to come help, cool. Strowman makes clear if Austin gets in his way he’ll catch hands

t’s Firefly Fun House time.

Bray Wyatt says hello and then apologizes to Finn Balor for what The Fiend did to him. It was really rude!

He winked.

Devil Vince shows up, and he’s pissed about Wyatt challenging Braun Strowman or Seth Rollins to a Universal title match at Hell in a Cell. Wyatt feeds Devil Vince some money and he goes away.

Wyatt says Seth and Braun don’t make a good team and in another life they took something very dear to him. But unlike those bozos, he’s learned to embrace the concept of teamwork. He shows all the Fun House characters, who help him cope with the pain. But The Fiend helps him inflict it.

“See you in hell!”

Corey Graves backstage with referee John Cone and he asks about the official decision.

Before Cone can speak, Baron Corbin slides in to say they Joe and Ricochet eliminated each other and he gets a bye in the next round. Cone says Ricochet and Joe were both not eliminated and instead they both advance. So the semifinals will be a triple threat match next week.

Corbin is, obviously, pissed about this

Charly and she’s joined by Rey Mysterio.

She asks him to talk about the emotional rollercoaster he’s been experiencing with his family. He brings up his son convincing him to dig deep inside and stay with pro wrestling. He tells us his son later told him it meant so much to grow up inside the WWE family. Rey can’t thank him enough for reminding him of who he is and convincing him to continue to pursue his passion.

And that had him thinking — how crazy is it that it’s the responsibility of parents to push their children to follow their dreams. But here it’s Rey’s son pushing him to continue his.

“I’m not done. Not just yet. I still have much more to accomplish.”

A golf clap from the crowd.

“I’m doing this for my son.”

THE MIZ VS CESARO:

Miz with Shoot Kicks, Cesaro ducks the Buzzsaw and hits a European Uppercut for a 2 count, Deadlift Superplex for a 2 count, Miz with a Snap DDT for a 2 count, Miz with Runnign Knees in the corner, he goes back to the well too often & gets Swiss Death, Cesaro into a cover for a near fall, Neutralizer countered, Sunset Flip, Figure 4 countered into a flash pin for a near fall, Cesaro with a barrage of European Uppercuts, Miz puts him away with the Skull-Crushing Finale for the win

WINNER: THE MIZ

NIKKI CROSS & ALEXA BLISS VS BECKY LYNCH & BAYLEY:

Bayley with a Snap Suplex on Cross for a 2 count, Sasha comes out as Bayley tries to keep Lynch focused on their tag match, Bliss with a Running Slam for a 2 count, Bayley with a rollup on Bliss for a 2 count, Lynch with The Dublin Jam, but Cross makes the save, Bexploder, Double Springboard Kick, but Sasha runs in & hits a Lungblower on Becky to cause a dq

WINNERS: BECKY LYNCH & BAYLEY

Banks grabs a chair and lays into Becky, Bayley takes the chair away then unloads on Becky (this leaves a whole host of questions, is Bayley a heel now? Does that make Charlotte a face by default at The Clash? Once again more questions than answers as the show closes)
